The Grown Up Work of Running a Day Care

Anyone starting a daycare must enjoy working with children, in order to make their business a rewarding and fulfilling career! Not only will you be doing something you love to do, you will also be earning a good living at it! The size of the daycare you start can be as small or as large as you would like it to be(check local daycare guidelines). You also need to decide on the age of the children that you will care for! These are things that you, as a “small business owner”, need to decide on before opening your doors.

Notice the phrase “small business owner.” Daycare IS a business. Make sure you don't think of your new business as a glorified babysitting service, or for that matter don't allow your parents to think that either! If you do, you will run into problems. If you think of it as your own daycare business, you will succeed right from the beginning, you will make all the right decisions, and get the right information.
Starting your own daycare business depends upon planning, and the knowledge of how a successful daycare business is to be run. You will need to know who your customers are, how you will reach them, and how you will keep them. You will need to know how to respond to the problems that will arise, and how to deal with them.
With daycare, you are offering a service, not a product. The one huge difference that dominates how you set up your business from a non-daycare business, and that is you are in charge of people's precious children. They need to be kept safe, fed and entertained throughout the day. And, you need to be able to meet or exceed the parents' expectations, and that can be hard to do.
This means that you need to invest in products that are childproof and durable, and are up to safety standards. Insurance is something else that you will need to check into. You will want to know how much and what kind of insurance you will need. Since you will be looking after children, you will need a police check, first aid and CPR. A lot of situations may arise when looking after kids...falls, scrapes, nausea and all the little things that pop up, and you will need to know how to handle them calmly and professionally.

There are a lot of things that you will need to do legally before you can open your doors. Check with your local governments to find out your province's or state's laws regarding daycare. They control every thing from the age of the children to the number of children you are allowed to have. Where I'm from, my own children didn't count in my daycare numbers. By going through this process, you will have peace of mind that you have done everything possible, and can legally open your doors for business. The parents, who come to you to take care of their children, want to know that you are trained, that your facilities live up to established standards, and that you are accountable to the state or province, and have met the necessary medical requirements to be able to operate this kind of facility.

The license you get when you open your daycare will mean a lot to the parents. And those parents are your customers. You owe it to yourself to pass all of the preparation requirements with flying colours, so you can open your doors with pride. Even though your daycare is oriented toward children, it is adult work to prepare to open and then operate your business. Learn all you can before you open your daycare by checking out this site.

Good luck in your future endeavour!!
